California Coastal Cleanup Day


I, Jasmine, would like to invite you to participate in this years California Coastal Cleanup Day!. Tom and I have participated as beach captain for the last few years and have really enjoyed this event. We are captains of Furlong Gulch this year and would love it if you would like to join us. I apologize for the short notice as the event is next Saturday, but if you would like to attend I would be happy to help you find a great camp ground or other accommodations.

Individual participants can either pre-register or can simply arrive at 8:30am at the Salmon Creek ranger Station located on CA HWY 1 (3 miles north of Bodega Bay) on Saturday September 15th. We will offer beach assignments to these folks.

This is the 23rd annual National Coastal & Creek Cleanup Day, and Sonoma County will have over 40 community cleanup locations—over 17 locations along the Sonoma coast and many inland creek, lake and river sites throughout the greater Sonoma County area. Sonoma county volunteers will clean over 30 miles of coastline and inland waterways in 2007 !

In 2006 over 1,200 Sonoma County volunteers participated and collected 11,480 pounds of trash and 4,232 pounds of recyclables from our Sonoma County waterways—An amazing amount of debris, much of which is hiding under water! There is always more work to be done, so gather your friends and help clean our coastlines, creeks, lakes and rivers.

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that I was recently contacted by an art collector who attended the showing in NY. funny thing is, he was not able to find me through the gallery there and was'nt given a response when he called them. he ended up doing a search with my name and the Academy's website popped up where he found the link to my website portfolio. He's purchasing three of my paintings to be exihibited in a gallery in Prague, Czech Republic where he's from in Europe. I just wanted to say thanks for adding the link! However, he said when he clicked on it, it didn't come up. I think it's because it should read wetcanvas.biz without any capitals. But anyway that's how he found me. Hi.  I'm Griffin, Debi's brother.  Here's an article from the Academy for this issue.

February falls into her final weeks, with Imbolc behind us; and the seasons continue their circle; moving in perfect timing towards the springtime.  Though the land is still cold with snowfall, already we can feel the starlight sparks of rebirth beginning to move upwards from the earth.  Not so much a growing, or a sprouting, but rather pure potentiality, the space for new dreams to begin their lives, for intentions to have the room to form; unhindered by the things we no longer need.

Normally, residents of Tahoe are blessed by the sharp change of the seasons, the enduring winter; Nature herself provides us, as always, with the most potent backdrop for our own spiritual journey.  As her mountains of snow begin to melt; revealing new life beneath them; so do so many of us pull out of our contemplative caves, shake off our inner bear and smile to greet the new day.  Even this light winter holds the constant reminder that all things change; that winter and springtime may not always be the same, but they always arrive on time.

A good thing to ask oneself; what shall I plant in this fertile earth? In this clean house; this clean soul? Perhaps, as we move further towards the eventuality of the Spring Equinox; we may wonder and marvel at the opportunity; the feeling of infinite creativity that only a clean slate, only a blank canvas, can evoke.  When we allow those things which no longer serve us to fall away; that which we are truly destined for; that which serves our sacred path; begins to hint it's delicate flowers beneath the snow long before they see the sunshine of tomorrow.

Sometimes things are best left to Nature.  Sometimes we don't know what we want, and we struggle with ourselves; asking questions of ourselves and others that we already know the answers to; if we could sit still long enough to remember.  Sometimes we aren't sure what dreams want to reach their tendrils up to the Sun.  But even then, this winter reminds me; everything always arrives on time.  Old habits that once sat on our shoulders give way; and our spirit stretches outwards, showing us our secret hopes and dreams.  When we clean ourselves, letting go of our old skin, we give these beautiful dreams the room to expand; and Nature takes care of the rest.
